Werapara, Chicas Trans is a documentary from film maker Claudia Fischer and features the collaboration between the women, Laurens, and I. Fischer was invited to join and document the collaboration as we began to encounter obstacles in flying two of the women from Colombia to England in 2019. With filming underway, Fischer visited the women’s home at Karmata Rua and flew to Medellin for the Festival de Diversidad. Fischer’s involvement culminated in this documentary film featuring our work together during 2019, pre pandemic restrictions, alongside interviews with many of the trans women and photography of the Embera reservation in Antioquia.

Wërapara, Chicas Trans is winner of PortoFemme Film Festival, XX Element (Best Film), Hobnobben Film Festival (Best Documentary Feature Film), International Queer Film Festival Playa del Carmen (Best feature film), Beachfront Film Festival (Best International Documentary), Cooper Awards (Best Feature Documentary) and has been officially selected by over 25 independent Film Festivals.
