Upcycled, deconstructed, salvaged, reimagined, plain or prescription glasses using bespoke traditional beading and radical thought.
Shades of Millones de Maneras placed emphasis on producing accessories, the goal being to develop a product which might effectively demonstrate the collaboration's spirit, with the input of all those involved in the workshops. The eventual idea - used existing, second hand glasses from a flea market, to be revived, collectively for the outcome. What emerged was the notion of a service provision, to salvage and upcycle worn out eyewear, using the traditional bead weaving which forms part of the women's cultural heritage to breath new life into customers decrepit or worn out frames.
Millones the Maneras is committed to environmental and social justice. We envisage the exhibition as a living space where product and visual material will be displayed. In addition we propose a service, offered to the public, of on the spot 'repair and revive' by the women and the collective.
