The community has become specialist in translating photographs using the traditional Embera technique, Chaq-e-scanner is an ongoing initiative to be controlled by the community as a business, to aid the wom- en’s transition to financial independence.

Chaq-e-scanner creates artifacts made to order, launched at Pabellón conference in Bogota in 2023. The customer (or audience) submits an image to be woven in bead. The women will respond with their inter-
pretation for purchase.

The first orders were placed at Pabellón and in May 2024 the initiative traveled to Photo + a biennale for the Visual and the Sonic Media as part of the proposal from Wild Palms Gallery where a second batch of orders were received.
